hese are things you should/shouldn't do with your vehicle.
Memorize them. . . . . . forever . . . If you practice these you will save big bucks and many days trouble over the years.

Never park next to a car with its wheels turned in such a way that he will hit your car when he backs up (forgetting that his wheels are turned).
This WILL happen to you sooner or later if you fail to heed this advice.
If a person does not have the presence of mind to straighten his wheels out, he will also be the one who forgets that they're turned. You will pay ... big time ... because he will not stick around to give you his license number. He will have no damage to his front bumper and you will have a three inch deep two foot high dent in your front fender just in front of your door.
Never pass a car at a "descision point".
I.E. Not at an exit on the freeway, at an intersection, etc. If you do ... you will eventually pay when someone turns in front of you.
Don't pass me on the entrance ramp of the freeway. Wait till you're established in the traffic before you pass anyone.
If you travel at "flight speeds" don't be surprised if you become airborn when you hit that unexpected little patch of new asphalt. (You CAN fly in a car ... but only once ; )
If you travel cross country you will get the crap scared out of you about every 1000 miles and have a minor traffic problem (just sweat) about every 200 miles. These are just statistical estimates and it doesn't matter if you're a good or bad driver. This is what other people will do.
On a trip, always plan to go through a major city some time well before or after rush hour.
Never drive in the right hand lane of a four lane road. Stay away from the side. Sooner or later someone will pull out and you will need the extra ten feet of space to manuever.
When walking or riding a bicycle, never obey the law and travel "with" the traffic. This is suicide. Always go against the traffic so you can see what's coming at you. This gives you the opportunity to jump out of the way.
The reason that the law says "Go with the traffic" is that fewer people are killed travelling with the traffic. The reason for that is "Everybody walks against traffic so they can see what's coming". Get it? The way people interpret statistics is usually laughable.
Just think about it for a minute ... if a drunk is coming straight at you (the usual case) wouldn't you be better off jumping over the guard rail? If he's going 50 mph what difference will it make in the closing velocity ... not much (50-2=48mph with traffic or, 50+2=52mph against traffic. Either way, if he hits you you're dead.)
I know of several instances where this was exactly the case.
Accidents occur when two (or more) drivers make a mistake simultaneously in the same place. If only one person makes a mistake, another usually covers for it (accompanied by some name calling). Hence, when making any kind of change, do so slowly enough so that if you have missed something the other guy will have time to honk his horn, etc. This has saved me many minor fender benders.
The reaction time of adults is about 100-200 times faster than that of teenagers. Forget what you are told to the contrary. A teenager will react to a car pulling out in front of him in about .25 seconds, whereas an adult with driving experience will have seen the other guy getting into his car a block back and realizing that he was going to pull out, taken evasive action to preempt the possiblility of a traffic incident, i.e. he 'covers' long before anything happens.
A teenager only 'sees' the car in front of him. All else is in a fog.
An adult's world is more encompassing and includes evaluating future possibilities as well as present actualities.
Always assume responsibility for everyone else on the road. This is unfair. But if you accept it and live with it you will likely never have a serious accident. And you won't be responsible for any deaths or horrible injuries.
So, in practice, you must always drive out of your rear view mirror. You must always look for the a-hole behind you and make room for him to get through with minimal danger to others. Yes, you're reponsible for the people in front of, behind, on the side and just entering the roadway while you accept that they are responsible for "nada". Horrifically unfair ... well ... that's the way the ADULT drives.

If you kill someone due to being intoxicated, you have a moral responsibility to
Take your own life.
Please do so. Better yet, if you are drunk, put the pedal to the metal and aim for the nearest bridge abuttment.
